Stylized Anime Shader – Unreal Engine 5
I’m happy to share a stylized anime shader I’ve been developing in my free time.
What started as a technical learning exercise and a tool for my own projects gradually evolved into a fully featured shading system focused on flexibility and artistic control.
The shader includes:
– Layered and standard material workflows
– Stylized lighting with sharpness control
– SDF face shadows
– Outlines and inlines with masking controls
– Stylized cubemap reflections
– Subsurface scattering support
It was built and tested in Unreal Engine 5.

AI was used in a limited and specific way during development. It was used to generate some custom shader nodes. AI was also used to stylize a reflection cubemap to better match an anime aesthetic.
